I liked the first three tapes in the Acid Junky mixtape series so much, I asked Josh McClintock if he’d mix a fourth especially for the site. I’m happy to share with you, 19 years after the original was recorded, a new addition to one of my favorite series of mixes. Josh McClintock – Acid

Left Over Bicycle Parts, by Zodiak, is a beautiful and dark mix of music that most DJs in LA weren’t playing back in 1996. Zodiak – Left Over Bicycle Parts (Nuts N Boltz) [Audio clip: view full post to listen] download Zodiak – Left Over Bicycle Parts (Shaft) [Audio clip: view full post to listen]

When I asked Moonpup for some background on this tape, here’s what he had to say: I can tell you it was the party that helped put me on the map as a DJ in LA….. I played the morning set on the beach after a wild night of all the heavy hitters playing up

I love “toenee’ gee’s ” comment above. That is the atmosphere that signified the LA Underground scene (before it became “the rave scene). I remember my first one was in February of 91… Some small venue that I can’t remember the name of, but we left after a couple hours and went to the bigger Willy Wonka’s.
The Paw Paw Patches were the bomb. Davin rocked the scene for a long time at the Casa with those. So many memories in the early days at the Casa. If there ever was a “regular” venue for the scene in the early days I think the Casa was it.
I can remember going in and seeing people from every color, tribe, and nation… white, black, hispanic, asian, gangbangers, you name it… but everyone just groovin’ and getting along.
House music, and electronica in general, transcends all of those barriers that we erect between ourselves.

Well said Hans and Toenee! The Casa…..So many good times there! ESP,TRON,PIPI’S PLAYHOUSE,PAW PAW PATCH.etc etc..If you couldnt find the map point in ’91…just go to the Casa.Just dont leave anything valuable in your car.lol

Josh, I remember ALL of those and so many more. Pipi’s… Wow. Yeah, the Casa was in the hood. What was it… Washington and Hill or something crazy like that?
Synergy was a great party there.
Then you bail and hit Flammable… then Sketch Pad… good times.

My first party was at The Casa, called Radiance. You got a flashlight at the mappoint. January 1991. I was hooked instantly. :)

It would be dope to see the (Feel The Release/Sounds You Can Feel) mix tape on this site. That was another classic Doc tape. I wonder where KMW is at these days, she had a really sick collection of stuff.
Love This Site!

You know, there used to be a Myspace Group called “Mixtapes”. Some girl on there, initials MW (?), once posted a link to a bunch of her Doc mixes…it was incredible! I downloaded like 10 mixes out of 40 before the link expired. The only problem…everything was recorded at the lowest possible bit rate! 96 kbps! : (
Still, some great stuff: Deep Intense Paradise, Green X and Ham, Lift 1991, Vertigo, S.O.U.L., Sunday Love, KCRW radio show 1993, 100% Technotronic, etc.
