90 minutes of house music from 1993 mixed by DJ Chris Hyde.
I love the cover for this tape and I’m guessing it’s a Fresh Jive design. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Since its birth as a shop and record label in Sheffield in 1989, Warp has become one of the World’s most respected creative organisations. Quickly developing into a platform for innovative and boundary-breaking music talent, Warp became synonymous with such artists as LFO, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and most recently Grizzly Bear, Battles and Maximo Park. Running parallel to the music is an equally strong visual identity, famously established through partnerships with graphic design iconoclasts The Designer’s Republic and video auteur Chris Cunningham, placing Warp alongside legendary labels like Factory in British cultural history.

Warp wants you to create the definitive Warp compilation by voting for your favorite ever released by the label. Your top 10 (by different artists) will combine with Warp’s top 10 to make this compilation for release in Autumn of 2009. You can leave personal messages and notes about memories your favorites hold and the best will be printed in the album art. Just click on the chart listed above and cast your votes.

My Top 10 (Cat# Order):
LFO – LFO (The Leeds Warehouse Mix) – WAP 5
Coco Steel And Lovebomb – Feel It (Original Mix) – WAP 18
Kid Unknown – Nightmare – WAP 20
Drexciya – Hydro Theory – WAP 57
Autechre – Tear Tear – WARP LP 25 (hard choice)
Nightmares On Wax – Nights Interlude – WARP LP 36
Aphex Twin – 73-Yips – WAP 39 (first that came to mind)
Disjecta – Cheekchops – WARP LP 41
Squarepusher – Rustic Raver – WARP LP 50
Boards Of Canada – Roygbiv – WARP LP 55 (Almost: Rue The Whirl)

This mixed tape by Jason Bentley is from October of 1992.

Jason Bentley has been an important part of the Los Angeles music scene ever since his early days at college radio station KXLU, hosting the ‘Illicit Groove’ as DJ Sonic, and he remains so today as the Music Director for KCRW.

I wish I could have made it to the KCRW Radioactive party this past weekend but timing and distance were working against me. Did anyone reading make it? How was the music?

This mixed tape, from 1993, is by San Francisco DJ Ernie Munson. The j-card for the tape was made by Ernie.

I’m not sure where he is these days, nobody I know is, but listening to this and many of his other tapes that I’ve been digitizing makes me wish I could hear him play out again.

If you want the taste with juicy hits, you’ll love a premium bass style. Most others add water to concentrate but Citrusonic pure premium bass style is NOT from concentrate. There’s nothing added and nothing taken away. So SHAKE IT!

This mixed tape was recorded live, in May of 1992, at Citrusonic and features the sounds of Doc Martin. A number of the Citrusonic flyers, along with some T-Shirts, were designed by Fresh Jive. More mixes from Doc are available here
