This mixtape, by Ron D Core, features the sounds of another early 90′s after-hours: No Doz. Many of LA’s best techno DJ’s like Ron D Core, DJ Dan, R.A.W., Mellinfunk, Fester, DJ Trance, and Barry Weaver graced the decks at No Doz, playing to hardcore ravers who would rather hug a bassbin than call it a night. Who could blame them?

I’m going to get lazy on track listings for a while, for the sake of getting more things posted. If you know any tracks in this or other mixes, or want to know what something is, please feel free to say so in the comments.

This Milkyway mixtape, by Mark Lewis, was recorded in the summer of 1992 at LA’s Flammable Liquid After Hours. The tape was sent in by a contributor who purchased it in the summer of 1992, at a Flammable Liquid after hours in Compton, after a Paw Paw Patch rave. Doc Martin and Mark lewis were playing that night.

This unreleased DJ Trance mixtape was recorded live, in December 1995, at “Joy” by F.A.M.I.L.Y. The voice on side B, at about 34:00, is Just Jhymn. Thanks for contributing this tape JB!

bassbin-twins-ep-1

This was the first in a series of 3 EPs, released in (I believe) mid 1993, from Pete Houser’s Bassbin Twins project. The sound, to my ears, is distinctly early 90′s San Francisco in the best way possible: A collection of great hip hop, soul, reggae and house samples, arranged nicely over lovely mid tempo choppy breakbeats.

This is the follow up to “An Epic Oldskool Journey”, one of my favorite mixes, by DJ Mojo. Part II picks up where the original left off, with a mix of hip hop, electro, techno and uk hardcore that later blurred into and influenced the jungle and drum n bass sounds (Epic Journey Part III?).
