  1. I was there :) Anyone know if this was inside the Casino or on the beach in the morning? I assume it was inside but I remember him playing on the beach. Cool thing is he’s really mixin’ it up (2x copies of Beltram, 1 backwards – droppin’ in Sweet Pussy Pauline, etc. = real, raw DJ action.) Sounds like a perfect set given the crazy pink punch factor. Love really early sets like this – thx.

  2. Who else remembers the last boat pulling away from the island and Dave 7 running out on the pier only to be left behind? LOL Fucking classic. Doc on the beach in the morning with people dancing on the little wooden raft just offshore was magical….I dont remember much of the casino party….but I’m pretty sure this is the set Doc played inside…he played house on the beach. I also remember that there might have been a second room or a funk room downstairs? I remember Doc playing the Sweet Pussy Paulina track in this room and him pointing at someone and saying “he made me play it” which made everybody laugh. I remember buying a couple Milky Way tapes at this party. If anybody has a recording of the MTV clip or knows how to obtain it…please let me know.

  3. Yes, I remember Dave running after the boat. We were the hardcore crew, the last boat to leave! I still have the flyer from this weekend, introducing Jon Williams to the US. He played massive attack’s unfinished sympathy in the casino…and the party on the beach was amazing. I saw the MTV clip when it aired but no idea where to get a hold of it now…

  4. This is for sure inside. Beach party was more tracks from Robert Owens and My Fingers, etc.
Also remember all the OAPs on the beach dancing to Doc Martin, and Dave 7 running down the dock for the last boat and missing it as Doc Martin played his song on the boat as it parted was classic.

  5. It started in the Casino and then worked its way out into the surrounding grounds later the next day, it was a weekend to remember and definitely set the pace for many future raves in the LA area.
Another venue all tho much smaller was called
“Sunday Love” at Black n Blue Sundays nights which always lasted into the early hours on Monday morning and as most of us were headed up into the Hollywood Hills for another 24 hours of after parties the rest of the working world were puzzled that so many cool looking young people seemed so happy at the start of a work week.
Memories are worth a thousand words plus more thats for sure…

  6. At last. This is why I bought my $60 ticket, and to this day remember this event as if it were yesterday. After a 90 minute drive, I got stuck on the Long Beach expressway and arrived at the dock just in time to wave goodbye to the boat as it sailed off to Catalina. An absolutely distraught young lady next to me on the Pier of Gloom explained how incomprehensible a tragedy this situation was and begging me to join her in locating a rowing boat (and heaving off in the wake of a fully-revved engine) reinforced this by repeating “There is NO WAY I CAN’T BE THERE, I MUST BE THERE” for the next five minutes. Then I drove back to LA, got lost, and eventually slept for the next 14 hours. ‘ardcore, me.

  7. This is to confirm that I personally recorded and engineered this Doc Martin mix” Live At Gilligans” inside the casino ballroom. Nothing if it was recorded outside in the morning. It was recorded direct to Digital Audio Tape at the event and the final master mix was completed at my home.

    Best Wishes from:

  8. My brother (Raffi) was at this rave and sent me the tape to London. Doc was always blinding on the decks and still rocks today. Trying to get some track ID’s on the B side of the Gilligans Island tape. Anyone want to try and give it a go? Would like the whole thing if possible but if not than the very first track, the one at 15mins with vocals going Ahemm, Ahaa. Raga tune at 18 mins, and the track near the end with “I just can’t stop” vocal.

I have already identified Black Box’s “Everbody, Everbody” and Saint Etiene “7 Ways to love”

    Good times – never forgotten!

  9. And one last thing! Anyone know the track on the Gilligans A side around 14 mins with the vocals “you’ve got to elevate your mind, elevate your body, elevate your soul, let the rhythm take control”?

    Big up!

  10. The first two songs on side B are:
    Sil “Windows”
Bass Bumpers “Can’t Stop Dancing” (Flavor Mix)

  11. The “7 Ways to love” track is actually “Cola Boy – 7 ways to love” I also spotted “Love Revolution – Give it to me baby” towards the end. Thought I heard “Bad Boy Orchestra – Hip hop salsa” in the middle…but its a mix I’ve never heard before.
After 22 years partying in L.A. this still remains the best party I’ve ever attended.

  12. Thanks Josh! Good call. Quite amazing how well some of these tracks blend in with the newer stuff when you think that they are 22-23 years old.
Still searching for the track on the Gilligans A side around 14 mins with the vocals “you’ve got to elevate your mind, elevate your body, elevate your soul, let the rhythm take control”

    Cheers!

  15. Doc played in the Casino, Moonpup was playing on the departing boat that the Dave7 incident happened and yes he did slip on Dave’s single , Jon Williams was introduced to the scene and had come to the States per our request , he lived close to where a couple of us Credo boys hailed from in Blighty and lastly it was Dom T that played on the beach rounding off the event.
The MTV clip was a Kurt Loader special breaking news special.
Hopefully that clears things up, Baba Lou and Mike Paris are dead right and whomever G Credo is got it dead wrong and is neither Graeme nor myself to be clear.
