Congratulations to Joel, DJ Mojo, on completing his undergrad senior project!
This video was shot shortly after his project presentation and demonstrates the AirDeck virtual theremin application he designed. The AirDeck was written in Jave with the WiiUseJ API for handling Wii remote events and the JSyn API for internal synthesis. It can control MIDI out as well as offering a simple DJ scratch interface for real-time manipulation of sound samples similar to a DJ scratching with vinyl records.

This is footage from Insomniac‘s 1 year anniversary party, held on November 5th, 1994, at what used to be the Shark Club in Los Angeles, CA. If you haven’t done so already, check out DJ Trance & R.A.W.’s 2×4 mix from that night – 4 Turntable Madness 101. Video Source: Jason Blakemore
Jason Blakemore sent me a bunch of VHS tapes from various events he’s played at. The video above is footage of DJ Trance at the first Bassrush event, produced by Insomniac, held in Los Angeles on February 23rd, 2002. I’ve been after this Steve Loria mix for years. While I’m still after a physical copy of the actual tape, that was released by Milkyway in 1992, I managed to source a digital copy from Tim at EzeSkankin Mixtapes (Thanks, Tim!). If anyone has an original of this tape, please let me know. I’d love
It’s a holiday weekend, I’m still awake, so I figured why not post one more mix before calling a night! “Spiral Trance, The Lions Dance”, was recorded in 1992 by Steve Loria at Citrusonic. I can’t imagine a more fitting name for this mixtape. Jolly House Jams, released by DJ Dan in 1992, is over 90 minutes of exactly what the title says it is. If you like house music, I dare you to listen to this without smiling. DJ Dan – Jolly House Jams (Toast And Jelly Side)
